Emmaus Way, an ecumenical Christian community in Durham seeks an enthusiastic and open-minded individual to continue the growth of our existing ministry among youth (grades 6-12). Emmaus Way is an open and affirming church shaped by a collective commitment to seeking out fresh and liberating ways to be about God’s redemptive work. This youth director (approximately 10 hrs/wk) would be part of a staff committed to embracing inter-generational community and valuing children and youth as fully human and fully engaged participants. 

Primary job responsibilities include: --Facilitating the age-specific time with youth on Sunday evenings from 4-5:30pm. This includes setting up and cleaning up the spaces and supplies, welcoming youth and visitors, preparing and teaching the lessons. --Coordinating a monthly gathering for students outside Sunday nights. --Coordinating and leading occasional retreats & trips for youth. --Supporting the pastors in offering pastoral care to youth and their families, especially during crises and at special moments of celebration, such as graduation and baptism. --Collaborating with the pastors so that youth programming intersects in meaningful ways with the adult gatherings and children’s curriculum. --Managing the youth supplies budget, the youth volunteers, and the implementation of our safe sanctuary policy.

Associate Pastor (Part-time)

Director of Children's ministry

Purpose: The role of the Director of Children’s Ministry is to nurture the spiritual growth of the children in the First-Centenary United Methodist congregation.

Duties and Responsibilities - Children’s Christian Education: Purchase and implement curriculum for Sunday school, Sunday night and Wednesday night children’s programming. Administration/ Leadership/ Communication Paperwork: (Keep attendance records, prepare ministry budgets, write reports, make presentations, etc.) Advertise/market/inform children and parents of current events, activities, goals, etc. Verify information and respond to queries. Meet, liaise and network with church staff on church-wide events, goals, procedures, etc. Act as an advocate for children’s interests. Stay engaged with technology and social media trends to be able to engage with and communicate with children and parents effectively. Develop and train adult volunteers in our children’s ministry strategy, goals, guidelines, and policies. Work with the Director of Youth Ministry to keep the Safe Sanctuary Policy up to date and relevant. Coordinate yearly training for leaders across the ministry areas. Empower and lead a Children’s Council composed of parents and ministry leaders who will help to execute events and support your ministry. Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Pastor. 

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings/nights. Office hours to be negotiated with Sr. Associate Pastor.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Develop and implement an effective long-term strategy for the spiritual development of youth (grades 6-12) and their families through meaningful relationships and ministries. • Plan and oversee all programs, activities and events that encourage our 6-12th grade youth to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ. These include:   - Sunday school   - Sunday evening youth group gatherings  - Midweek studies - Overnight spiritual retreats and mission opportunities (day trips and camps) • Administer and operate our annual youth Confirmation program. • Equip and encourage youth to participate as active members of the congregation and community. This individual is expected to be actively attempting to develop relationships with the congregation’s students through youth outreach. • Seek out and participate in opportunities to witness to and support youth in the church and community. • Recruit and empower servants to engage and lead youth in weekly events, as well as spiritual and mission trips. • Lead and implement youth fundraising opportunities. • Initiate and maintain administrative duties, including regular communication with families and planning. • Create a proposed budget and implement an approved youth budget with input from church leadership. • Work with TRUMC’s Director of Children and Family Ministries to coordinate the Pumpkin Patch – one of the church’s annual fundraisers – as well as other events throughout the year. • Maintain and train the current list of youth servants who are Safe Sanctuary Certified. • Promote and recruit applicants for the Christopher Riddle Scholarship, and work with the Foundation to ensure the scholarship’s guidelines are met. 

Desired Ministry Qualifications: • Some formal education in ministry and/or Wesleyan theology (preference given to bachelor’s or master’s degree in a ministry-related field) • Distinct calling to ministry, especially with youth • At least two years’ verifiable experience in youth ministry leadership, either paid or volunteer • Demonstrated fruitfulness in developing ministry leaders, both youth and adult • Demonstrated success in identifying and developing ministry tools • Demonstrated ability to grow a ministry • Willingness to lead or recruit servants to lead worship during youth events • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communications skills • Strong organization skills and attention to detail • Has a positive attitude and enjoys collaborating with others • Able to multitask • Able to take direction and absorb information quickly.

Contemporary Worship Co-Leader

Located in north Raleigh, Wakefield UMC strives to be a faithful, Christ-centered community focused on the mission to grow a church where people at any stage of their faith journey can experience a transformational relationship with Jesus Christ. The Contemporary Worship Co-Leader is a part-time position, sharing duties and responsibilities with the other Contemporary Worship Co-Leader of the church. This role will work closely with the Senior Pastor to help lead the worship team during Sunday services, holidays, and other special events. 

Responsibilities The Contemporary Worship Co-Leader is responsible for: Collaborating with the Senior Pastor weekly to organize and finalize the worship set list for upcoming services or events. Being able to attend (remotely or in person) the weekly Tuesday morning staff meeting is a plus. Serving as primary Worship Leader approximately twice per month. Leading corresponding rehearsals and assisting the worship team in their preparation for Sunday. Communicating with the worship team to ensure the team is fully prepared and equipped for Sunday. If necessary, helping set up and put away equipment for the worship service. Recommending improvements to the Senior Pastor to ensure efficiency and effectiveness throughout the worship service and rehearsal process. Facilitating the growth of the worship team through recruitment and ongoing support. Maintaining Planning Center, the church planning software application, to include setting up users, updating, and creating songs in the worship database. 

Qualifications Able to connect Scripture and Biblical themes to songs and Worship Team devotions. Commitment to the values and theological teachings of the United Methodist Church. Proven experience singing and leading a congregation in worship. Sound musical knowledge. Effective communication skills. Strong leadership and listening skills. Patient, creative, and assertive. 

Preferred Qualifications Skills leading with instruments (I.e. Acoustic / Electric Guitar, Keys etc.). Familiarity with audio and musical equipment commonly used for worship. Can assist with the production of Sunday mornings (knowledgeable in running sound, slides, etc.). Experience as an MD (Music Director) during worship OR experience writing and communicating vocal notation. Familiarity with planning software and applications and CCLI licensing.
