Job Description:

Purpose: The role of the Director of Children’s Ministry is to nurture the spiritual growth of the children in the First-Centenary United Methodist congregation.

Duties and Responsibilities - Children’s Christian Education: Purchase and implement curriculum for Sunday school, Sunday night and Wednesday night children’s programming. Encourage and provide mission opportunities with children. Oversee maintenance and improvement of the areas used for children’s Christian Education. Children’s Events and Activities - Organize and oversee celebrations for children and families including those during Christmas, Advent, Lent and summer activities; as well as community building events for families and children throughout the year. These events include but are not limited to Vacation Bible School, Easter Egg Hunt, No Rehearsal Christmas Pageant, End of Year and School Kick off gatherings, Kids Camp/Parents Night Out, etc. Lead and Oversee Childcare Staff: Hire, train and oversee childcare staff to provide services to church families on Sundays, Wednesday nights and special events selected by ordained clergy. Administration/ Leadership/ Communication Paperwork: (Keep attendance records, prepare ministry budgets, write reports, make presentations, etc.) Advertise/market/inform children and parents of current events, activities, goals, etc. Verify information and respond to queries. Meet, liaise and network with church staff on church-wide events, goals, procedures, etc. Act as an advocate for children’s interests. Stay engaged with technology and social media trends to be able to engage with and communicate with children and parents effectively. Develop and train adult volunteers in our children’s ministry strategy, goals, guidelines, and policies. Work with the Director of Youth Ministry to keep the Safe Sanctuary Policy up to date and relevant. Coordinate yearly training for leaders across the ministry areas. Empower and lead a Children’s Council composed of parents and ministry leaders who will help to execute events and support your ministry. Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Pastor. 

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings/nights. Office hours to be negotiated with Sr. Associate Pastor.
