Duke Divinity School offers $10 million in scholarship assistance annually. 100% of students admitted to the M.Div., M.T.S., M.A. in Christian Practice, D.Min., and Th.D. receive scholarship support.

All applicants are considered for scholarship support. Applicants normally receive information about Duke Divinity scholarships at the same time they receive admission decisions.

Theology, Medicine, and Culture Fellowship

TUITION GRANTS AND FULL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Theology, Medicine, and Culture (TMC) Fellowship at Duke Divinity School encourages theological formation among those with vocations to health care. It offers scholarship support for theological study and formation through either a one-year or two-year fellowship track. In addition, three full-tuition scholarships are available for students in the MTS program.

The Lipe Leadership Fellows program supports promising and gifted residential M.Div. students who are preparing for ministry in large, dynamic congregations. One incoming student from each entering class will be chosen.

More Scholarships

Through the generosity of many, including those who give to Duke Divinity School’s Annual Fund and established endowments such as the Lipe, Eason, and Stange Endowment Scholarship Fund, the Divinity School provides significant scholarships to help students afford the cost of theological education. A full listing of endowment and scholarship funds can be found in the Divinity Bulletin.

The Divinity Dean’s Scholarships range from 50% to 100% of tuition. Awards are based on the overall strength of the admission application. All applicants to the M.Div. and M.T.S. programs are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Merit scholarships are renewable provided that the students maintain good academic standing. 

This scholarship is awarded to entering students in the MA in Christian Practice and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) programs. Awards cover 25% of tuition. Entering students in the Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies who are not awarded a merit scholarship will receive a Divinity Tuition Award. Award amounts vary. 

This scholarship is awarded to M.Div. candidates that demonstrate a vocational commitment to congregational ministry. Applicants of all denominations are considered for this scholarship. Candidates may apply for the Ministry Impact Award in the admission application. 

The Anglican Episcopal House of Studies awards scholarships annually to entering and returning Anglican/Episcopal students. AEHS Fellows desire to pursue a vocation that will be of service and/or leadership in Anglican or Episcopal church contexts. Scholarship recipients are required participate in the programs offered by Anglican Episcopal House of Studies and complete the Certificate in Anglican Studies.  Students should contact the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies to lean more. M.Div. candidates should denote interest in AEHS scholarship in the admission application.

The Baptist House awards scholarships annually to entering and returning Baptist students. Candidates must hold membership in a Baptist congregation and participate in ministerial activities that demonstrate a desire to pursue a vocation that will be of service and/or leadership in Baptist churches or ministries. Scholarship recipients are required to participate in programs offered by the Baptist House of Studies and complete the Certificate in Baptist Studies. Students should contact the Baptist House of Studies to learn more. M.Div. candidates should denote interest in Baptist House scholarship in the admission application. 

The Divinity School offers one scholarship per year to an international student in the Master of Theology (Th.M.) degree program. Awards are based on the overall strength of the admission application. The scholarship offers up to one year’s full tuition.

The Ray C. Petry Scholarship is awarded to entering M.T.S. students who demonstrate academic excellence and promise to contribute to the field of religious studies. Petry scholarships provide 100% of tuition. All M.T.S. candidates are automatically considered for Petry scholarships. 

The University Scholars Fellowship Program is awarded to one student that has demonstrated significant academic ability and interest in creative and interdisciplinary study. University Scholars participate in an informal seminar, held once every two to three weeks. The seminar brings together University Scholars from each of the graduate and professional schools, undergraduates, interested faculty and distinguished scholars from a wide variety of disciplines. The University Scholars program provides a one-year full-tuition scholarship. Residential M.Div. and M.T.S. candidates may apply to be a University Scholar in the admission application. 

Students admitted to the Th.D. program are awarded a fellowship package that provides six years of funding. Students receive a full-tuition scholarship, coverage of required student fees, and a living stipend. 

FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR M.DIV. PLACEMENTS

Field Education Internships

In addition to scholarships, residential M.Div. students are eligible for paid field education internships paying $10,000 per placement through the Office of Field Education. Students are required to complete two placements, and have opportunities for more.
