Children's Ministry Coordinator

The Children's Ministry Coordinator is responsible for fostering faith formation with children (birth through 5th grade), cultivating community, and creating an environment where children and families know they belong. This position will work closely with the pastors in developing a children's ministry that integrates into the broader community of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 

Skills and Qualifications: Experience working with children is preferred Knowledge of Lutheran Christian faith and worship. Welcoming presence excited to embrace all. Effective communicator comfortable with speaking in front of groups. Strong organizational skills that support creativity and follow through. Ability to recruit and support volunteers. Flexible and patient in working with staff, volunteers, and families.

 Primary Responsibilities: Sunday School - Coordinate annual review of curricular resources and manage subscriptions. Coordinate registration and attendance tracking. Coordinate nursery attendants. Be present on Sunday mornings to provide support to teachers and welcome families. Ensure teachers and volunteers who work with children have up-to-date Safe Gatherings training and background checks. Children's Ministry - Plan and lead monthly gatherings for children and/or families for fellowship, service, or learning (ex. Easter Egg Hunt, Advent activity, etc.) Recruit and equip volunteers to share in children's ministry. Create an environment and foster a community where children and families can be present authentically and thrive Communications. Provide regular communication to families about upcoming activities and opportunities. Share content with the Office Administrator that can be included in the weekly emails and monthly newsletter informing the congregation of Children's Ministry activities. Collaborate with the pastors and the rest of the staff and keep them informed of upcoming ministry opportunities. Worship Leadership and Milestone Ministry - Collaborate with the pastors to coordinate a Milestone Ministry where key points in the life of faith are acknowledged during worship (baptism, first communion, gifting of Bibles, Blessing of Backpacks, etc.) Regularly be present in worship and encourage children and families to engage in worship leadership (ex. Offering bearers, acolytes, etc.) Summer Day Camp - Coordinate a 5-day summer camp at Holy Trinity that is led by counselors from Lutheridge. Responsible for registration, coordination of snacks and meals, planning afternoon activities, check-in/checkout, volunteer coordination, t-shirts, present onsite for the week, etc. 

Accountability, Compensation, and Evaluation - This is a salaried position based on 10 hours/week. There will be flexibility to the schedule, with some weeks requiring more hours and other weeks requiring fewer hours. Compensation is $1200/month, there is an additional $500 stipend for Day Camp Week. This position includes paid time off of 3.5 hours per month (four 10hr weeks per year) This position requires a flexible schedule with evening and weekend hours, to be coordinated with the Senior Pastor. It is expected that the Children’s Ministry Coordinator will normally be available Sunday mornings.

Experience/interest working with community groups 4. Excellent communication and writing skills 5. Knowledge and practical experience in planning and organizing activities to meet and set goals 6. Ability to establish working partnerships with agencies, groups and individuals 7. Creative thinker who is a self-starter and can work independently 8. Ability to be flexible in work schedule with some evening hours possible 9. Proficient in use of computer and software programs and social media 10. Strong interest/experience in working with minority groups. 

A partnership of churches and community groups is working with Ebenezer to develop plans and identify financial resources to support the congregation long-term. Currently ESL classes are offered in the evening with childcare provided. Expansion of child development opportunities is an important role of the new position. Fund-raising also will be a key part of the job, along with developing new church and community partnerships and strengthening existing partnerships. The long-term goal is to establish a stand-alone building adjacent to the church to serve as a child development center and a community gathering place (La Placita).

Job Objective: First Baptist Church of New Bern currently has 2 search committees in place for our Music and Youth & Family Life Ministries. Organization: • The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Interim Youth Pastor. S/he will be directly accountable to the Interim Youth Pastor for their performance. Weekly/Adhoc Responsibilities: • Assist the Interim Youth Pastor in planning, coordinating, and executing the Youth Program. Fill in for Interim Youth Pastor when required. • Assist the Interim Youth Pastor in Discipleship including worship time, Sunday School, development/teaching Biblical lessons and devotions, and building strong theological foundations in our Youth. • Organize, prepare, and execute both formal and informal activities for the summer months that are designed to help our teens grow spiritually and enable fellowship. • Assist and lead local Youth Mission efforts such as RCS feedings and Baptist on Mission rebuild site projects. • Attend and Chaperone Summer Camps and Mission Trips o Summer Youth Camp: Travel with our youth to Passport Choices summer camp at Converse University. While there you will have opportunity to provide leadership through teaching Bible studies, free time electives and other seminar possibilities. o Domestic Mission Trip: Travel with our Youth to Appalachian Service Project and participate in service activities supporting underserved communities. o International Mission Trip: You may have the opportunity to be part of an international mission trip to Guatemala with our FBC New Bern Sr. High Youth, depending on timing of your hiring. This trip will take place through the NC Baptist Men, NC Baptist Children’s Homes and Good Shepherd Ministries of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. • Collaborate with other youth ministers in the area to be involved with community youth events including the Youth Worship Nights. • Participate in staff meetings and worship planning. • The intern will help with further promotion of upcoming activities through the production and sending of articles in monthly church newsletter, social media, e-mail and other materials, as well as making specific phone calls as needed. • Observe and gain practical experience in counseling youth and their families as situations present themselves. • Exercise active pastoral concern for the young people and parents of First Baptist Church, to call on young people and parents in pastoral need situations such as sickness, hospitalization, crisis intervention, death and other situations in which they may need help or support. • Depending upon the intern’s gifts and interest, opportunities may be available for him/her with our music ministry and to provide worship leadership, worship planning, sermon delivery, hospital visitation, and other ministry tasks. • The Intern will be responsible for keeping a regular journal of the experiences and objectives achieved during his/her ministry at FBC New Bern. This journal will be reviewed with the Interim Youth Pastor on a regular basis to encourage healthy dialogue concerning the direction of the internship and to evaluate accomplishment of set objectives and brainstorming of further objectives. 

Compensation: • The salary for the Intern will be commensurate with experience but at a minimum is $500 (before taxes) per week beginning approximately May 19 through August 8, 2025 with a maximum of 40 hours. Schedule is negotiable. Housing will be provided and ministry expenses such as mission trips will be paid for by the church.

Youth Ministry Intern

Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Emory University.
