In addition to degree-based certificates available through Duke Divinity School, Duke University offers a number of graduate certificates that can be earned as part of master’s and doctoral degrees. Three certificates that may be of interest to Duke Divinity students in particular are: the Graduate & Professional Innovation & Entrepreneur (I&E) Certificate, the Global Health Graduate Certificate and the African & African American Studies Certificate. All certificates use interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential approaches to make meaningful connections and application. Duke University Continuing Studies also offers the Certificate in Nonprofit Management, which can be earned by students in the M.Div. (residential or hybrid), M.T.S., and M.A. in Christian Practice programs. Divinity students may complete the non-credit Certificate in Nonprofit Management through the successful completion of two courses, PARISH 721 and 722.

Students interested in participating in certificate programs outside of Duke Divinity should contact the administrator for the certificate program of interest to verify requirements and application processes. Due to the residential format of certificate courses, most of these programs are only open to residential Divinity students. Divinity students who participate in these programs should stay on paradigm; completing a certificate may require an exception from Academics to the Divinity School’s policy that limits students to two courses outside the Divinity School or the Graduate School of Religion. Contact Academics to request an exception. Students wishing to participate in a graduate certificate outside of Divinity should consult their academic advisor early in their program.
