Summary Seek out youth in the church and surrounding community to share the love of God through engaging programs that meet the spiritual and developmental needs and interests of the youth. Surround the youth with loving and caring adults who will mentor the youth. Equip and encourage youth and their parents to learn to seek and love God, love and serve people. Communicate with youth, parents, church members, participants, and community members through various avenues of church communication, including social media. Support non-youth ministries of the church with presence, hospitality, and administrative assistance.

Lead: - Work with pastors, ministry staff, and youth adult volunteers to create, plan, and oversee developmentally and theologically appropriate opportunities for youth of all ages and abilities. - Develop and lead weekly spiritual formation opportunities for youth (i.e. Youth Group, etc.). - Plan and oversee seasonal spiritual formation programs and milestone celebrations for youth (i.e. Mission Trips, summer camp, Confirmation, retreats, Senior Recognition, etc.). - Recruit, empower, and train adult volunteers to adhere to the Children and Youth Policies and Procedures. - Empower youth to undertake leadership roles in the youth ministry and at First Church. - Create ministry opportunities that minister to the whole family as well as across generations. - Partner with parents to ensure youth continue to seek and love God, love and serve people throughout their lives. - Create processes that enable smooth transitions of ministry through various life stages (Confirmation, Graduation, etc.). - Ensure all First Church programs and events adhere to the Children and Youth Policies and Procedures of First Church. Collaborate: - Coordinate and work with volunteers and youth student leaders. Demonstrate healthy and effective teamwork with pastors and staff. - Work with pastors to evaluate youth ministries with input from relevant people. - Work with the pastoral staff and worship planning team to create opportunities that incorporate and engage youth in worship services. - Oversee the Youth Ministry budget with input from relevant people. - Work with pastors, staff, and laity to update and maintain the accuracy of Realm, our church database and directory. Add and deactivate participants and members in Realm. Expand our current usage of Realm. - Be present on Sunday mornings to participate in worship leadership, connect with youth and families, offer hospitality, and support any other church needs on Sunday morning. - Assist pastors and congregational care ministers to respond to pastoral care needs of youth and their families. - Attend and participate in staff and other meetings. - Create an environment conducive to positive interaction with pastors, staff members, lay leadership, church members, and the community. - Attend First Church Scholarship Committee meetings as a non-voting member. Assist Scholarship Committee in reaching out to students. - Assist with other administrative and programmatic needs of the church, as needed and/or assigned. - Provide support for other church and/or community events, as needed and/or assigned. - Maintain confidentiality of youth medical history and/or prescription needs per HIPAA as needed. Communicate: - Establish communication methods with youth students and parents. Proactively communicate with youth students and parents with long-range information as well as short-term reminders. Use communication tools such as Realm database, social media, texts, mail, etc. - Maintain current rosters of youth students and parents in church Realm database. Update as needed with correct contact information. - Work with the Director of Communications to manage the church social media accounts. Create content that will advertise clearly and often with youth, parents, volunteers, First Church members, and the community about opportunities in both First Church’s Youth Ministry as well as all other ministries at First Church. - Enthusiastically inform pastors, staff, members of First Church about the Youth Ministries. - Ask for help when needed. Promote, communicate, and embody the vision, mission, and core values of First Church. 

Preferred Qualifications Education and/or Experience: - Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University and two years of related ministerial experience. - Embodies and lives the Christian faith. Deeply committed to personal spiritual growth. - Passionately desires to share and develop the Christian faith with youth and families. Computer Skills: - Working knowledge of internet tools including social media, spreadsheets, and word processing software. Other: - Strong commitment to Christian faith and theology of The United Methodist Church. Familiarity with the United Methodist Church structure and Wesleyan theology. - Must be adaptable, innovative, cooperative, and communicative. - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff, lay leadership, children, parents, and the community. - Ability to solve practical problems and effectively cope with the challenges that may arise from working with a variety of people in a church setting. - Must be able to multitask, organize, and delegate. - Must be able to work independently and with a team. - Must pass a background, fingerprint, and reference check. - Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs or more.

Associate Pastor of Community Life

We are a thriving, LGBTQ-affirming, nondenominational church that was planted over a decade ago in Ann Arbor, MI. Weekly attendance is about 150, including approximately 40 kids between preschool and fifth grade. We share a building with an Episcopal Church and a Reform Jewish Synagogue and have an additional 30-55 computers that join us live on Sunday mornings via Zoom; we’ve integrated the online and in-person congregations and host an annual “Zoomie weekend” where online congregants meet in Ann Arbor to worship with the local church. We are excited to find an associate pastor who can help tend the life of this growing community. 

The Associate Pastor of Community Life will preach every 4-6 weeks, input on big picture sermon series and spirituality shaping, oversee newcomer welcome system—including tracking, meeting with, and tending new attendees, help with planning and administration of church wide events, oversee youth group (recruit, train, tend teachers; event planning; curriculum, pastoral care), teach or oversee two 3-6 week classes per year, pastoral care, weddings and funerals, when needed, hospital visits, when needed, attend staff meetings, attend and help administrate Sunday services (including managing the setup team), assist with baptisms (planning, certificates, etc.), some volunteer coordination work, liaison with online-only congregants, some administrative work, serve as backup when lead pastor is out.


Pay - $52,000-$54,600 annual (housing allowance available). Benefits Stipends -The church adds 12% of your base salary to your paycheck to help offset insurance needs. Paid Time Off - The position includes 22 days of paid time off.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: • Must be a born-again, baptized believer, and be able to publicly proclaim his testimony • Must demonstrate the qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, & 1 Peter 5:1-3 • Must affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) • Should display the spiritual gifts and maturity appropriate for this position, including teaching (Ephesians 4:11), shepherding (Ephesians 4:11), exhortation (Romans 12:8), faith (1Corinthians 12:9) administration (1Corinthians 12:28), leadership (Romans 12:8), and discernment (1Corinthians 12:10) • Must be dedicated to the sound biblical proclamation of the Word of God and to making disciples in the church, local community, and around the world in support of the Great Commission • The ideal candidate will possess and demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, a strong work ethic, readiness to lead by example, and a deep commitment to the ministry. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: As a spiritual leader of Switzer First Baptist Church the Pastor provides guidance for the church and its ministries. The following are the key duties required of the pastor: • Provide a balanced ministry of preaching, teaching, evangelism, service, and pastoral care. Assistant Priest for Youth and Families

The Episcopal Church of the Advent is seeking a creative and passionate priest to share in the leadership of this Transition/Pastoral-sized, multi-generational, vibrant parish located in downtown Spartanburg. We hope to welcome our next Assistant Priest for Youth and Family Ministries in the spring or early summer of 2025 to spend 3-5 years in this full-time position. This person will specifically lead all aspects of faith formation for families with middle and high school aged children as well as college-age young adults, but also will be fully engaged with our Director of Children and Family Ministries. In addition, they will serve as pastor, priest and teacher for the parish along with the Priest in Charge and Associate Rector. The Assistant Priest will plan, design and lead all programs for our youth and engage their families in the life of the church. They will build a network of volunteers to provide middle school and high school youth and college-age young adults with opportunities for formation, fellowship and service.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS • Plan and coordinate all youth ministry activities such as camps, conferences, retreats and mission trips with the Advent’s program and facilities staff and with the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. • Foster a safe, nurturing environment where youth can explore their faith. • Support the youth of the parish in their various daily activities such as sports events, theater activities, prayer breakfasts, lunches and other special occasions. • Lead the offering of spiritual guidance, direction, encouragement, Safe Church support, and training to leaders, teachers and chaperones. • Support parish families in their spiritual lives through online resources, seasonal programs, baptismal preparation, and one-on-one interactions. • Develop and teach various seasonal series and classes. • Participate in the preaching and presiding rotation of the clergy. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS • $84,976. Total clergy compensation (TCC) is based upon diocesan norms and experience, some of which may be allocated as housing (per IRS guidelines). TCC includes professional expense allowance and provisions for continuing education. • Four weeks paid vacation. • Two weeks paid continuing education time. • Health insurance and dental plan, per Diocese of Upper South Carolina policies with the Church Pension Group plan
