Richmond Hill (RH) is an ecumenical Christian retreat center and residential community of approximately 15 people located in a former monastery in the center of Richmond on the city’s highest hill. (www.RichmondHillVA.org) RH seeks to hire a full-time pastoral director as its chief administrative officer and pastoral leader to oversee this non-profit which seeks to transform the metropolitan city of Richmond through prayer, hospitality, racial healing, and spiritual development. The Pastoral Director will be an individual of strong Christian faith with 5 years of experience in a leadership role of a non-profit organization or as a minister of a Christian church. (It is not a requirement that the individual be a minister). The selected candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, extensive non-profit or church management experience, and evidence of a strong commitment to social justice and racial healing. There is a residency requirement to stay at RH which will be negotiated at hiring. Associate Minister for Children, Youth and Families

The Associate Minister for Children, Youth and Families is responsible for the spiritual welfare and Christian formation of the Congregation’s younger demographic. This responsibility is met through direct participation in the Congregation’s youth programs, and pastoral oversight of church school and through pastoral care to youth, children and families in the church. This position is supported by an amazing team including staff for church school and youth ministry. The Associate Minister shall also support the Senior Minister and Pastoral Care Minister(s) in the performance of their duties, including accommodating absences, and shall perform all other duties assigned by the Senior Minister and/or Board of Deacons. The Associate Minister’s role is year-round and full-time, and reports to the Senior Minister. The nature of the role lends itself to non-standard work hours and a flexible work schedule; Sunday and evening work hours are expected. Travel for retreats, off-sites, and youth mission trip(s) is required. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead and execute at least one of the church’s youth programs, which could include Youth Group, Quest and/or Confirmation, at the discretion of the Senior Minister. Be an active participant at and participate in at least one youth mission trip per year, to provide pastoral care and senior level oversight of youth. Provide pastoral care to the children, youth and families of the Congregation. Provide coverage for pastoral care emergencies when Senior Minister and/or Pastoral Care Minister(s) are absent. Work collaboratively with pastoral care teams to provide care as requested to others in the Congregation. Participate in most Sunday worship services. Preach monthly, or as directed by the Senior Minister. Regularly offer a mid-hour (Sunday morning) educational program. Provide coverage for youth programming in the case of absence(s) Assist with church school as requested and available. Participate in Youth Worship services as directed. Plan for, prepare, direct, assist in and/or officiate at religious services held by or at the Church as directed by the Senior Minister. At request of parishioners and others, or at direction of Senior Minister, performs weddings and baptisms and officiates at funerals and memorial services. Provide Ministerial participation on Church boards, committees and ministry teams as assigned by the Senior Minister, including but not limited to the Board of Trustees Provide support to Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees as requested Serve as a ministerial liaison to The Preschool on God’s Acre and participate as a member of the Board. 

Required Qualifications: Ordained, and/or Licensed Minister with ordination pending 3+ years experience in working in youth ministry or related discipline. All relevant work experience will be considered. 

Desired Qualifications: Ability to preach well to a large congregation. Ability to build strong and effective collegial relationships with parents, youth, children and staff. An understanding of the needs of individuals at various levels of intellectual, theological, social and emotional development. Tact and sensitivity, including but not limited to adhering to confidentiality obligations such as mandated reporting as part of child protection. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong faith-based ethical standards and personal integrity.

Minister of Youth and Communication

General Position Description: This full time ordained position will collaborate with the Senior Pastor, Family Ministry Team and the Youth Ministry Committee to develop, implement, direct, promote, maintain, and administer a well-rounded ministry to middle and high school youth (grades 6-12) that encourages and challenges young people to grow in faith as disciples of Jesus Christ. This position will also oversee and implement all communication strategies and initiatives. Number of Hours per Week: Full-time employment – typically 40+ hours per week. Immediate Supervisor: Senior Pastor 

Ministry Responsibilities: Youth 1. Work in guidance with the Senior Pastor in establishing vision and goals for a well-rounded ministry to youth. 2. Plan, promote, and guide the religious education programs for youth such as Sunday School, Wednesday evenings, Missions education opportunities, Discipleship classes, etc. 3. Build working relationships with middle school and high school youth, their parents, and adult volunteers. 4. Recruit, develop, and train youth ministry volunteers. 5. Work with the Senior Pastor and the Youth Ministry Committee in planning opportunities for discipleship, programs, and activities that meet youth needs. 6. Encourage the healthy development of youth (spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially) in all aspects of ministry. 7. Inform youth, parents, and church members about youth activities/events (Newsletters, social media, e-mail, announcements, etc.). 8. Plan, provide and maintain a calendar of activities/events for youth. 9. Ensure that the Child Protection Policies and guidelines of the church are communicated and followed by all volunteers. 10. Prepare a yearly budget for youth ministry to present to the Stewardship Committee. 11. Conduct the necessary administrative functions to sustain a healthy youth ministry. 12. Perform other tasks as assigned when such tasks would enrich and enhance the church’s mission. 

Communication 1. Develop strategy for both internal and external promotion of church events, programs, news, and general information. 2. Direct and involve Communication Team members as appropriate. 3. Lead and manage all church communication, including: a. print communication (newsletter, worship guides, posters, flyers, banners, cards, etc.) Ensure consistency of brand and highest quality of production. b. web site communication and design. c. social media communication in addition to email communication. d. church’s audio and visual technology. Provide promotional slides in worship, on site communications, and for unique events.

The Youth Minister role is comprised of both a relational ministry commitment with the youth of the community, as well as an administrative role to plan and execute said ministry. The Youth Minister, with the guidance and support of the Senior Minister and the Associate Minister of Children, Youth and Families, is responsible for envisioning, developing and implementing excellent youth programming and in aiding the spiritual development and growth of youth participating in our groups. The Youth Minister is responsible for leading one of three of our major youth programs (YG (Comprised of approximately 100 9-12th grade students), Quest (Comprised of a subset of 9-12th grade students) and Confirmation (8th grade students)); the other two programs will be led by the Senior Minister and/or Associate Minister of Children, Youth and Families. Personal interest and long-term ministerial growth will be taken into consideration when assigning division of duties. The Youth Minister leads all K-7th grade youth group programming with the assistance of part-time youth advisors, parent volunteers and a youth administrative coordinator. The Youth Minister’s role is full-time and reports to the Associate Minister of Children, Youth and Families. The nature of the role lends itself to non-standard work hours and a flexible work schedule; Sunday afternoon/evenings and evening week night work hours are expected. Travel for retreats, off-sites, and mission trips is required. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties: - Involvement in all and lead of most of the church’s youth programming (grades K-12), which includes YG, MSYG, JYG, Minnows, Guppies, Quest and Confirmation. - Execute ministry programs for youth as assigned by Associate Minister of Children, Youth and Families, including curriculum development/selection, enrollment, space usage, record keeping, budget management, supplies, and schedules. - Organize, develop and execute the yearly calendar and curriculum for Youth Ministries; Plan weekly youth events including program content, prayer, communications, staffing and administration. - Plan, prepare, lead and execute mission trips, overnights and/or other offsite events. - Coordinate other local service projects, special events, youth worships, retreats and mission trips. - If assigned Youth Group (YG), lead a team of 6-8 Youth Advisors. Recruit and train advisors and/or junior advisors as needed. - Lead Youth and/or Middle School Ministry Team(s) alongside lay chair. Lead/participate in any other lay ministry teams for assigned youth groups. - Utilize, give direction to and work alongside Youth Program Coordinator for administrative needs. - Maintain a regular presence in the community and develop relational ministry with youth: --Maintain a steady presence/visibility in the lives of the youth. --As appropriate, be a presence in the community by attending events such as athletic events, concerts, plays, etc. --Be a faithful presence in the church community including occasional participation at church services, bible study groups or special events. --Support the youth group ministry teams comprised of adult members with the mission of supporting the execution of program activities. --Develop and maintain relationships with other youth leaders. Network and meet with parents to integrate them into the youth program. --Periodically assist in religious services held by or at the Church as directed by the Associate Minister of Children, Youth and Families and/or Senior Minister.
