Joel Marcus, Professor Emeritus of New Testament and Christian Origins at Duke Divinity School, will be giving the 2025 Kenneth W. Clark Lectures. His topic will be: “Jews For (And Against) Jesus: Claude Montefiore and Joseph Klausner.” Both Montefiore, a leading light in the Liberal Judaism movement in Britain in the early twentieth century, and Klausner, a prominent Zionist thinker and later professor at Hebrew University, wrote extensively on Jesus and his significance for Judaism, though both also expressed reservations about his teaching.
