The Youth Director of the church has the responsibility to develop and lead youth ministry (grades 6th – 12th), encouraging all youth to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and to live a life of discipleship. This position is three-quarter time, salaried, and is supervised by the Pastor.
Personal/Spiritual: • Demonstrates a thriving relationship with God • Active Christian lifestyle of discipleship, including regular worship attendance at Horne Memorial UMC, small group participation, a spirit of generosity, and serving out of call and giftedness • Is in alignment with and support of the vision of HMUMC • Is a Christian leader, and shows positivity, professionalism and confidentiality.
Qualifications: • Is a builder of ministry rather than a maintainer. • Bachelor’s degree is required. • Youth ministry experience and/or formal training in youth ministry are required. • Ability to supervise, coach, and evaluate others as needed.
Responsibilities and Desired Outcomes: • Build relationships with youth & parents both within program events and during the week to provide counsel/guidance as needed. • Identify, develop, lead, coordinate & promote Christian programming, including weekly UMYF gatherings, Sunday School for youth, mission trips, retreats, fund-raising activities to assist in service projects and social activities, community service activities, creative worship (music, dance, drama) and conference events. • Develop programs and curriculum which are Wesleyan in nature. • Recruit, train, & resource adult leaders to assist in youth ministry programming. • Prepare & manage a budget for the youth program. • Plan, coordinate, & execute youth Bible studies & annual Youth Sunday worship service.
