Job Description:

This position is located at Granville Correctional Institution, Butner, N.C. Granville County. Granville Correctional Institution houses male offenders in close and medium custody. This position reports to the Clinical Chaplain II. This position is responsible for planning, conducting, or coordinating and supervision of an interfaith program of religious services and providing a comprehensive program of pastoral care for a close custody maximum security correctional facility housing approximately 1012 offenders with approximately 340 employees. Applicants must submit a completed state application, a resume, a 300-600 word statement on the subject, "why I desire to be a prison chaplain", a copy of ordination certificate and a letter confirming their good standing within their denomination. Position must communicate effectively with a wide range of interdisciplinary staff, colleagues, community clergy, mental health services providers, volunteers, offenders and their families, conduct and coordinate religious education, instruction and activities, supervise offenders attending programs. Position must provide advice and counsel to the facility head and other administrators on religious and theological matters, as well as issues of staff and offender morale when appropriate. The chaplain shall be involved in research investigations and data collection on a wide range of issues; pastoral programmatic, and interfaith.

Applicant must have basic knowledge to apply constitutional principles and key court decisions pertaining to religious practices for equal treatment on an interfaith basis. Applicant must be able to comprehend and abide by policy, standard operating procedures, memoranda, legal documents and other directives governing departmental and facility activity.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC): The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.
