General Audience

Sr. Damien Marie to lecture on the need to engage Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ in light of our scientific understanding of creation and the ecological decline that lay before us. This lecture was generously funded by a LeMaître Grant of the Collegium Institute at the University of Pennsylvania and part of an ongoing effort of Fons Vitae to discuss religion and science at Duke.

Sr. Damien Marie Headshot

Sr. Damien Marie Savino is a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist and serves as the Dean of Science and Sustainability at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sister Damien Marie received her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from The Catholic University of America, and holds an MS in Soil and Plant Science from the University of Connecticut, and an MA in Theology from The Catholic University of America. Her research interests include theology and science, ecology and theology, ecological restoration and resilience theory.
