Duke Divinity School will sponsor the 2025 David C. and Virginia R. Steinmetz Lecture featuring Barbara Newman, Ph.D., the John Evans Chair of Latin Language and Literature at Northwestern University.
Newman is known for her work on medieval religious culture, comparative literature, and women's spirituality. Among her books are The Permeable Self: Five Medieval Relationships (2021), Medieval Crossover: Reading the Secular against the Sacred (2013), and God and the Goddesses: Vision, Poetry, and Belief in the Middle Ages (2003).
The lecture, part of an annual series, is open to the Divinity School community and the public. Registration is not required.
