Wesleyan Formation Initiatives are built to foster new pastoral pathways for various constituencies.

Supported by the Kern Family Foundation, there are currently two pathways for pastoral development under the umbrella of Wesleyan Formation Initiatives: the Duke Accelerated Pastoral Formation Program and the Rediscovering the Heart of Methodism series.

Duke Accelerated Pastoral Formation Program

Accelerating the Path to Ministry

The Accelerated Program takes advantage of Duke’s Hybrid M.Div. to allow undergraduate/special students at partner United Methodist-affiliated partner colleges to begin earning credit toward their M.Div. while completing their baccalaureate degree, and continue accruing practical ministry experience in their chosen context while completing their theological training at Duke. All told, this will enable them to “take the field” an average of three years earlier than most residential M.Div. students.

Online Formation for Leadership

Methodism series includes non-degree courses and materials that help future pastors and current Methodist leaders develop core capacities for innovative leadership within the Wesleyan tradition.
