"Being a minority in the Divinity School, Asian students can easily feel lost, but the Asian House group members make sure Asian students are not just a face in the crowd. Asian House specializes in creating a space where we can belong."

The Asian House of Studies engages with the experiences and histories of Asian and Asian American communities, and welcomes all who are interested in learning from and contributing to theological conversations.

The rise of Asian Christians can be witnessed around the world. The churches in Asia have grown rapidly both in numbers and in their influence on Asian societies and world Christianity. Asian-American Christians have emerged as a significant part of the sociopolitical and religious landscape of America. In the past few decades, the Asian and Asian-American community at Duke Divinity School has also grown considerably.

The Asian House of Studies provides space at Duke to engage with important questions regarding the history of and contemporary expressions of theological development, including colonial and post-colonial perspectives; intercultural dynamics in ministry and theology; women’s rights in patriarchal cultures; and more. The Asian House of Studies also supports students and scholars at Duke Divinity with an interest in Asian and Asian American history, theology, and ministry; and partners with other organizations in the school, the wider Duke community, and beyond to broaden theological horizons and build Christian communities.
