Cary First Christian Church is seeking a Senior Pastor to exercise general oversight of our local church, its ministry, functions and community engagement. Established in 1868, Cary First Christian Church, is a loving, multi-generational, small congregation located in Cary, North Carolina. The Church acknowledges Jesus Christ as its head and functions as a congregational church that is Christ-Centered, Bible-Based, Purpose-Driven and Mission-Focused. Our mission is to Love God, Love Neighbor and Make Disciples. As we continue to grow, we maintain our focus on our vision: “Walking in Love to Engage, Empower, and Equip the Community to Be Disciples!” Cary First Christian Church is a pillar in the community and even partnered with The Friends of the Page-Walker, a non-profit organization, to develop a “Walking Tour” of Cary First Christian Church cemetery which is a historic landmark-designated cemetery. The church is a vital part of the history of the Town of Cary and has established community partnerships with Dorcas Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, the Carying Place, One Wake, and surrounding local churches.
About This Role Job Overview – The Senior Pastor serves as the spiritual leader and head of the church, guiding its mission, vision, and daily operations. This role involves preaching, teaching, pastoral care, administrative duties, and community engagement. The Senior Pastor works collaboratively with the church leadership team and congregation to foster a vibrant and healthy faith community. This role is accountable to the Deacons and works in cooperation with the Church Council (the church’s governing body). This is currently a bi-vocational position but can be re-negotiated as the church grows. Salary is negotiable.
Primary Responsibilities and Tasks of the Senior Pastor Preaching and Teaching • Prepare and deliver weekly sermons that are biblically sound, engaging, and relevant to the congregation. • Lead Bible studies, seminars, and other educational programs to foster spiritual growth and understanding. • Ensure that the church's teaching aligns with its doctrinal beliefs and values. Pastoral Care • Provide pastoral counseling and support to individuals and families in times of need, including hospital visits, funerals, and weddings. • Develop and oversee programs that address the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the congregation. • Train and mentor associate pastors, lay leaders, new members, and volunteers in pastoral care and ministry. Leadership and Administration • Work with the Deacons, Church Council, committees, and staff to set and achieve strategic goals and objectives. • Collaborate with the church Finance Administrator to maintain an understanding of the church's financial health. • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and biblical policies and standards. Community Engagement • Represent the church in the local community and build relationships with other churches, organizations, and leaders. • Promote and participate in outreach programs, missions, and service projects that extend the church's impact beyond its walls and with a focus on church membership growth. • Communicate effectively with the congregation and community through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and public speaking.
Qualifications and Personal Characteristics • Bachelor of Liberal Arts, Bachelor of Science, or a Master of Divinity degree in related field from an accredited academic institution. Consideration will also be given to candidates with equivalent experience. • Ordained, licensed and in good standing within the Christian community. • Minimum of 5-10 years of pastoral experience, preferably in a senior or associate pastor role. • Strong biblical knowledge, theological understanding, and commitment to the Christian faith. • Demonstrated proficiency in preparing and delivering biblically sound sermons • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals. • Proficiency in using technology and social media for ministry purposes. • Must pass a comprehensive background check
