Audio from the 2016 Convocation & Pastors’ School: Who Needs Theology? Inside and Outside the Church is now online on iTunes U. The Oct. 10-11 event explored the role of theology as a shaping force in our daily lives and included lectures, seminars, worship, and alumni gatherings.

  • Lectures by Elaine A. Heath, dean of Duke Divinity School, and professor Norman Wirzba.
  • A panel discussion among prominent Duke administrators with a variety of professional backgrounds led by professor Ellen F. Davis, and featuring Valerie S. Ashby, dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences; Peter J. Gerend, Duke Corporate Education’s global head of North America; and A. Eugene Washington, M.D., chancellor for Duke University health affairs and president/CEO, Duke University Health System.
  • A panel discussion among clergy led by Kenneth H. Carter, Jr., resident bishop of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Participants included Donna Banks, Matt Cook, David C. Hockett and Sarah S. Howell.
  • Two sermons by Brian E. Combs, founder and pastor of Haywood Street Congregation, Asheville, N.C.

The 2017 Convocation & Pastors’ School will be held October 9-10, 2017, at Duke Divinity School.
