The Baptist House of Studies at Duke Divinity School has received a gift of $100,000 from the John and Eula Mae Baugh Foundation to launch the Baugh Scholars program, designed to recruit and support exceptional Baptist seminarians. Three M.Div. students in the Baptist House of Studies were selected this year to receive three years of scholarship support beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year.

 

Kennedy Gray, M.Div. '20, currently serves as the youth minister for the Suggs Christian Temple in Wilson, N.C. He is also a human relations commissioner for the city of Wilson. He is preparing to become a Baptist minister and hopes to serve as pastor of a Baptist church to carry out the Great Commission to “go and make disciples and baptize them, and teach them to do all things Christ commanded.”

 

Summer Hyche is a 2016 graduate of the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She has spent the better part of her life involved in ministries related to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She was raised in the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham, a Coooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) congregation, and served as the student ministry intern. For three summers she worked in Passport Camps, a CBF partner ministry. She is following a call to pastoral ministry and justice advocacy. She is particularly interested in working for racial reconciliation and the empowerment of young women.

 

Austin Maynor is a 2017 graduate of Campbell University, where he majored in Christian Studies. A native of North Carolina, Austin is a member of the First Baptist Church in Asheville. With special interests in preaching, spiritual direction, and religion and literature, he hopes to minister in both pastoral and academic settings. He is seeking ordination through the Alliance of Baptists and the CBF.
