The Anglican Episcopal House of Studies and the Office of Black Church Studies, both at Duke Divinity School, are hosting a symposium on “Cross-Cultural and Anti-Racist Ministry for a Global Church.” The event will begin at 11:35 a.m. EDT with a service of Holy Eucharist in Goodson Chapel for the Feast of the Annunciation, with a sermon by The Most Rev. Michael Curry, presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, USA.

After the service from 12:40 to 2 p.m. EDT, there will be a  panel discussion featuring Bishop Curry and:

  • The Most Rev. Dr. Mouneer Anis, presiding bishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria, Egypt;
  • The Most Rev. Naudal Alves Gomes, presiding bishop of the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil; and
  • The Rt. Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, bishop of Dover, Diocese of Canterbury, The Church of England.

The panelists will discuss how to build bridges, strive for justice, and respect the dignity of every human being in Christ's name in addressing the challenges of various ministry contexts. The conversation will be moderated by Duke Divinity faculty members David Goatley, director of the Office of Black Church Studies and research professor of theology and Black Church Studies, and Christopher Beeley, director of the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies and the Jack and Barbara Bovender Professor of Theology, Anglican Studies, and Ministry. Goatley is also the associate dean for Vocational Formation and Christian Witness.
