Duke University will hold an online Service of Lament and Healing Marking the COVID-19 Pandemic Anniversary. One year ago, the COVID-19 pandemic began its rapid spread across the United States. In response, churches, universities, and schools suspended in-person activities and began the shift to online services and courses.

In this online service, there will be lament for the things that have been lost—lives, incomes, and stability—and pray for God's healing and restoration of "ourselves, our communities, and our world." The prerecorded service includes prayers, a hymn, scripture readings, virtual anthems from the Duke Chapel Choir, and a homily from Duke Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery. Powery is also an associate professor of homiletics at Duke Divinity School.
