Goldman, professor of religion and Middle Eastern studies at Duke, discussed Bob Dylan's place in the cultural and religious landscape of American life. The event is part of Goldman's continuing series on American rock legends and religion.
The multimedia event also featured folksinger Lisa Deaton, the Divinity School Faculty Band (with Dean Richard Hays and professors Kate Bowler, Thea Portier-Young, Joel Marcus, and David Arcus, in addition to Tyler Smoot and Lori Baron), and film clips.
The event, which took place Oct. 3, was sponsored by the Center for Jewish Studies, the Divinity School, and the Department of Religion, all at Duke.
