Duke Divinity School celebrated its 87th Baccalaureate service May 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Duke Chapel with J. Warren Smith , associate professor of historical theology at the Divinity School, delivering the sermon.
The next day, Duke University awarded more than 5,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees during its annual commencement ceremony in Wallace Wade Stadium. Degrees awarded to Duke Divinity School graduates were: Master of Divinity, 131; Master of Theology, 4; Master of Theological Studies, 15; Master of Arts in Christian Studies, 8; and Doctor of Theology, 1.
During the 90-minute Baccalaureate service, Smith delivered the sermon, "Hands on the Ark,” based on the Old Testament text from 2 Samuel 6:1-12 and the New Testament text from 1 John 4:1-12. The worship also included the traditional ritual of hooding for degree recipients and is available on YouTube for viewing.
