Baccalaureate Service May 10

Duke Divinity School will celebrate its 88th Baccalaureate Service on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Duke Chapel. The preacher will be Richard Lischer, James T. and Alice Mead Cleland Professor of Preaching at the school.

Lischer was selected by Divinity School Dean Richard B. Hays to preach after graduating students made nominations. His sermon titled "Having This Ministry" will be based on a New Testament reading from 2 Corinthians 4:1-12. It will explore the theme of death and new birth in ministry.

This 90-minute service of worship includes the traditional ritual of hooding for degree recipients and is open to the public. It will be webcast live on Duke's Ustream and also the Duke Chapel webcast page. In case of difficulty accessing the webcast, there is also an alternative page. An archive of the service will be available afterward on the Duke Chapel webcast page.

Duke Divinity graduating students should meet before the Baccalaureate Service in Goodson Chapel at 5:30 p.m.

In addition, Duke University’s 162nd Commencement Ceremony will be held Sunday, May 11 at 10 a.m. in Wallace Wade Stadium with the procession beginning at 9:30 a.m. The commencement address will be delivered by General Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
