Duke University Divinity School, an institution of theological education that is part of Duke University and with connections to the United Methodist Church, invites applications for a fulltime faculty position in African American theological ethics or constructive theology to begin on or about July 1, 2018. Specialization and sub-field is open. Appointment will be at the associate professor rank with tenure.
The candidate selected for this position will be a scholar of recognized stature and demonstrable potential, who is dedicated to the church's life and work, and equipped to teach women and men preparing for Christian ministry in its various forms. Candidates should have earned the PhD or ThD in theology or related discipline.
The successful candidate will participate in Duke Divinity School’s principal residential and hybrid degree programs, with shared responsibility for offering required courses and a broad range of electives that conform to the School’s mission, the needs of the division of Theology, and the appointee's research interests. In particular, duties will include teaching regular courses in Black Church Studies that fulfill curricular requirements for M.Div students. Candidates must be able to promote theological reflection on the significance of their scholarship for the ministry and mission of the contemporary church.
The duties expected of a faculty member at Duke University Divinity School include excellent publication and teaching, including doctoral student supervision; mentoring of students; service in faculty committees, meetings and programs; and active participation in the School’s and the University’s life.
