Will Willimon’s Lectionary Sermon Resource, Year C Part 1
Will Willimon, professor of the practice of Christian ministry at Duke Divinity School and retired bishop of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church, has written a new guide on resources for preaching.
The book, Will Willimon’s Lectionary Sermon Resource: Year C (Part 1), was published in May by Abingdon Press. In the book, Willimon, who is acclaimed as one of the top ten preachers in the world, provides lectionary sermon resources for Year C Part 1 of the Revised Common Lectionary. The lectionary is readings from the Bible for use in Protestant Christian worship, making provision for the liturgical year with a pattern of observances of festivals and seasons.
The new book is part of a six-volume set by Willimon that includes years A, B, and C (two volumes per year) in the Revised Common Lectionary. The sermon guide provides preachers with an opportunity to fuel their imaginations while inserting their own illustrations, making connections within their congregational context, and speaking the Word of God in their distinctive voices.
Willimon is a former dean of Duke University Chapel and served on the Duke Divinity School faculty from 1984 to 2004, returning to Duke after serving as the bishop of the North Alabama Conference from 2004 to 2012.
