Duke Divinity School Th.D. student David Stark has received a grant to study at Leipzig University in Germany from October 2016 through May 2017 as part of an exchange program funded by European program Erasmus+. He will research Jewish and Christian proclamation of the Hebrew Bible as part of his studies in homiletics and Old Testament.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent Duke Divinity School and to work more closely with Alexander Deeg as a part of the vibrant community of students, pastors, and scholars at the Institute for Practical Theology at Leipzig University,” said Stark.

Stark’s studies in Germany are part of a broader international exchange program in homiletics and practical theology between Leipzig and Duke Divinity School.

The Divinity School has hosted two doctoral students from Leipzig, and Alexander Deeg, chair of practical theology and director of the Lutheran Liturgical Institute at Leipzig University, will teach a seminar at the Divinity School in the fall of 2016. Charles Campbell, professor of homiletics at Duke, will teach a seminar in Germany in January 2017. Additional funding will be available for more student exchanges as well.

Erasmus+ is a European Union program that supports education and training, including international partnerships and exchanges for individuals and organizations.
