Reverend Dr. Christopher Beeley, director of the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies (AEHS) and Jack and Barbara Bovender Professor of Theology and Anglican Studies, has been named the 16th rector of Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Texas.

Beeley joined the Divinity School faculty in 2018, having spent 16 years at Yale Divinity School. Over the past 27 years he has also served as an Episcopal priest on the staff of eight churches nationwide, including the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. This transition marks a return home for Dr. Beeley and his wife, Shannon, both of whom are native Texans.

Commenting on Beeley’s tenure, Dean Edgardo Colón-Emeric said, “AEHS has become a model for the kind of generous orthodoxy and beloved community we seek to cultivate at Duke Divinity School. In a time of cultural and ecclesial fracture, he has helped to enable the formation of holy friendships, daily practices of devotion and discipleship, and intellectual rigor paired with deep love of Christ’s church. That strong foundation creates a legacy for the next generation of Duke students.”

Beeley will leave the Divinity School in the coming weeks to assume his new role. Reverend Joe Carnes Ananias, a 2013 Duke Divinity graduate who has worked closely with AEHS since 2016, will serve as interim director.
