Video from this year's AEHS Study Day, "Preaching Without Apology: Thoughts from an Occasional Preacher and Practical Theologian" with Stanley Hauerwas, are now available on YouTube and below.

Approximately 120 people attended the March 14 event, with some coming from as far away as California, Texas, Georgia, Marlyand, and Pennsylvania. While the majority of attendees were members of the clergy, 15 current Divinity School students also attended.

Hauerwas, Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke Divinity School, spoke on "Preaching Without Apology" and "Facing Nothingness—Facing God."  He also took part in a panel discussion on preaching with panelists including Ellen Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology, and the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of N.C. The study day also included small group discussions on lectionary texts.

In his opening address, Hauerwas cautioned that faithful Christian action depends on the right perception of the world, but “we can only see what we have learned to say. The task of the preacher then is to model and teach faithful Christian talking.”
