Position Summary: Advocate for, engage with and grow our middle school & high school ministries. (Part-time, 18-hours a week, Salary $ 25,000 a year). Accountability: Director of Christian Education Supervises: Youth Ministry volunteers Expectations: The Youth Director will be committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; and, led by the Holy Spirit, will demonstrate a personal growing relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship. Although the Youth Director will have specific responsibilities as defined, she or he will be involved in the total ministry of the church through leadership in worship, pastoral care, and leadership for spiritual formation and growth. The intent is to create a youth and young adult ministry to the congregation, preparing First Presbyterian youth for discipleship, equipping them to serve Jesus Christ.
Qualifications A seminary degree, specialized college degree, or specialized training & experience are desirable. Must have a heart for Christ and a passion for Biblical knowledge. Gifted and excited to connect with middle school, high school students and young adults. Passionate to be involved in the community. Intercultural ministries training is a plus. Must be able to pass a background check.
Responsibilities: Administrative Responsibilities To attend weekly meetings with the supervisor. To attend weekly and special worship services (Sundays and Wednesdays required). To increase communication through Social Media, youth websites, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, blogs, etc. To communicate with Youth Ministry families all pertinent details surrounding church and youth ministry news and events. To request all expenses for the Youth Ministry budget through Supervisor and Christian Education committee. To educate the congregation about the activities and needs of the youth. To maintain office hours. To fulfill other duties as assigned. Youth Ministry Weekly Programming To foster the youth ministries by visiting the youth, by engaging in conversations with parents and community leaders and organizing meaningful events for the youth. To plan, oversee, and implement appealing weekly Youth Group gatherings. Continue to build a team of passionate volunteers to guide the youth in their Spiritual Formation. To be the primary Christian Formation leader for both middle school and high school students. Youth Ministry Mission Trips & Retreats To plan, promote, organize & attend assigned middle and high school retreats, including, but not limited to: Annual Montreat Youth Conference & Massanetta Middle School Retreat Triennium Conference PC(USA) (every 3 years, 2025) New Hope Presbytery Sponsored Retreats. To help plan, promote, organize and attend annual church-wide mission trips (Mexico & Peru, alternating years) Organize youth fundraiser events for mission trips. Youth, Church, and Community Involvement Be available to encourage, challenge, and counsel the youth, young adults, and parents as followers of Jesus. To attend student activities including athletics, arts, other interests, and community events related to youth. In coordination with Christian Education and Family Ministry, organize inter-generational activities/events.
