Job Description: Youth Ministry Coordinator St. Michael’s Episcopal Church – Raleigh, NC Position Overview: The primary role of the Youth Ministry Coordinator is to provide a welcoming culture of God’s love and create positive relationships with the students, families and volunteers of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. This 15-20 hour, part-time position will help plan and implement age-appropriate programming for students in the 6th-12th grades, which includes opportunities for fellowship, service and formation. The coordinator will support Youth & Family Ministry and partner with Staff, in concert with the purpose, core values, and vision of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Accountability: The Youth Ministry Coordinator reports to the Director of Youth and Family Ministry. Responsibilities: • Demonstrates a positive, friendly attitude and cultivates a caring and safe environment for the students, families, volunteers and paid staff, reflecting God’s love for all. • Assists in recruiting, coordinating and training volunteers to facilitate youth programs for students in the 6th – 12th grades and family parish events. • Assists in the planning and coordinating of Sunday evening youth group (EYC), Sunday school classes, programs and youth events/trips. • Coordinates appropriate scheduling of volunteers and management of schedule changes to ensure proper coverage for EYC and youth events. • Assists in the planning and leadership of youth ministry trainings and meetings (ie: yearly trainings, curriculum trainings and Safe Church trainings). • Follows Safe Church guidelines according to the Episcopal Diocese of NC Best Practices for Safe Church Policy, Procedures & Resources. • Ensures that volunteers are trained and up to date in CPR/First Aid, Safe Church, Diocesan Re-opening guidelines and youth ministry duties. • Enforces policies pertinent to youth ministry and ensures appropriate health, safety and security procedures are maintained and followed. • Communicates with volunteers to help answer questions; ensures they have lesson plans and are prepared on Sundays or with any special programming and/or events. • Works cooperatively in the planning of programs and support for youth and parents. • Communicates facility upkeep and improvement needs for youth ministry to the Director of Youth and Family Ministry; organizes and maintains the youth room and ministry office/closets. • Reports time off requests to the Director in a timely manner, at least two weeks in advance of time off requested. • Reports monthly time sheets (personal and any staff, if applicable) to the Director. • Regularly reports any needs (staff, supply, or personal) and concerns to the Director of Youth and Family Ministries and maintains clear and consistent communication. • Participates in bi-annual reviews with the Director of Youth and Family Ministry. • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree, or High School Diploma/GED plus three or more years of work experience in youth ministry or working with youth in a professional setting preferred. • Passion for the spiritual development of youth and their families; a heart for building relationships. • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, organization and planning skills, reliability, and the ability to interact professionally with students, parents, volunteers, and paid staff. • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and overlapping deadlines with flexibility, positivity, and patience. • Completion of Safe Church Level II training or willing to obtain within 60 days. • Completion of CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain within 60 days. • Completion of criminal background check.
