International House Graduate Student Staff 10 - 15 hours per week Responsibilities (based on work schedule) 1. Participate in and assist staff with planning and executing Graduate/Professional Student Orientation, Undergraduate Orientation, Spouse/Partner Orientation, and Parent/Family Orientation. You will need to be available to work some nights and weekends between August 10 - 19, 2019. 2. Drive international community members in the I-House 12-passenger van to various locations, including • Monthly trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles during the week • Weekly trip to Social Security on Wednesday at 10 am 3. Conduct scholar orientations with new visiting scholars Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday at 10:30 am (once a week). 4. Serve as an advisor on duty to answer general inquiries and specific questions from international students, scholars, spouses/partners, and the public. 5. Assist in maintaining and updating information handouts. 6. Staff the front desk as needed, including • Answer the phone • Greet visitors • Respond to queries 7. Assist with clerical work and other projects as needed. Qualifications 1. Must be sensitive and patient working with people from diverse cultures. Enjoy helping others solve problems. 2. Be a self-motivated team player willing to take the initiative. 3. Must have a valid US drivers license with at least three years of driving experience. 4. Knowledge of Duke Box. 5. Ability to speak a foreign language helpful. 6. Some evening and weekend work is required.
