The ministry of La Estrella is seeking a visionary leader with an openness to discernment and visioning as a team. The Director will facilitate and lead a visioning process to effectively accomplish La Estrella’s mission statement. La Estrella’s mission is to equip our Hispanic brothers and sisters in Christ, specifically through helping children and their families grow into their God given potential and live abundantly. Through weekly Bible lessons, worship, meals, tutoring, and enrichment activities we seek to foster growth in mind, body, and spirit. Responsibilities include: Administration • Work in partnership with, and be accountable to, the La Estrella Board of Directors. • Maintain relationship with Duke Divinity School, including applying for student interns and serving as supervisor for all appointed interns. • Maintain and oversee the annual budget and report all credit card expenses to the NC Conference UMC Office. • Regularly apply to grants such as Duke Endowment, conference grants, and other UMC wide grants to continue funding the ministry of La Estrella. • Oversee lawn and building maintenance, including weekly cleaning of facilities when activities are in session. • Supervise all staff and approve monthly hours and payroll. Program Oversight • Manage all programs, including Saturdays, summer camps, and special events. • Collaborate with student interns and staff to ensure all activities incorporate age appropriate tutoring and activities for all children. • Support, recruit, and train all volunteers. This includes traveling to various churches and contacting community organizations to educate regarding La Estrella’s ministry and volunteer opportunities. • Organize and create meal and volunteer schedules for Saturday activities and summer camps. • Manage all transportation needs, including ensuring bus is inspected each year, tags are renewed and that the bus has an adequate amount of gas for each Saturday pick-up. • Partner with tutoring coordinator to schedule educational activities for a minimum of twice a month. • Plan and offer summer camps (usually Tues-Thurs) throughout the summer, including a week-long Traveling Day Camp through Camp Chestnut Ridge. Pastoral Leadership • Provide worship opportunities for families as a whole, such as a monthly service in Spanish; intentionally incorporate families and guardians into the life of the ministry. • Visit families and provide pastoral care to families and children on an as needed basis, in collaboration with student interns and other staff. • Communicate regularly with families and volunteers and update and utilize website and social media platforms. • Partner with Nashville UMC and other local churches to provide Christmas gifts for children and siblings of participating families. • Recruit local clergy to help lead Christmas and Easter services for families and volunteers. • Coordinate with partnering Wilson congregations to provide youth programs for the growing number of youth (6th-12th grade) This is a part-time position (20-25 hours weekly). Salary commensurate with experience.
