Dakota Wesleyan University, a four year private liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in Mitchell, South Dakota, is accepting applications for a Campus Pastor to begin in July 2014. The Campus Pastor serves as a spiritual guide and transformational leader for the students, staff and faculty of Dakota Wesleyan University. By providing regular opportunities for worship, small groups, and mission and service projects, the Campus Pastor moves the campus forward in an innovative and creative 21st century model of providing ministry in Christ’s name.
DWU has a vibrant campus ministry that has seen tremendous growth over the last several years. On average 140 students participate weekly in chapel services, students from across the university are engaged in discipleship and leadership opportunities, and increased numbers of students are serving locally and around the world. Fusion Church, a new church plant connected with the United Methodist Church, has also been launched on campus to reach out to the community.
Responsibilities: Lead a weekly campus worship service with a team of student leaders, coordinate small group ministries; organize international and domestic mission trips including fundraising, planning and evaluation; provide pastoral counseling; teach one class per semester in the Religion Department on campus; and partner with Fusion Church to continue growth of campus ministry and Fusion.
Qualifications: Master’s degree required (Master of Divinity preferred); Extensive knowledge of the United Methodist Church and provisional or full elder in the United Methodist Church preferred. A minimum of two years previous experience working with young adults and preaching/teaching required. Previous experience leading or participating in international mission trips preferred.
A highly energetic self-motivated professional with a willingness to try new and innovative ministry endeavors is needed. This individual must have excellent communication skills and be able to build strong relationships with college students. Successful candidates must also have strong organizational skills and have a demonstrated commitment to the mission of DWU and our values of learning, leadership, faith, and service.
Compensation includes a monthly salary, housing stipend, and full employee benefits package.
