The official listing of this position may be found on the Church Leadership Connection website of the Presbyterian Church USA: https://clc.pcusa.org/CIFView.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fCIFLookup.aspx Purpose: This position serves the entire congregation of RCPC, a church of approximately 600 members, with duties related to congregational relationships and care, mission and outreach to the community, ministry with youth, spiritual formation, and leadership in preaching and worship Accountability: Accountable to the Head of Staff (HOS), to the RCPC Session and its Administration & Personnel Committee; the Presbytery and its Committee on Ministry; to the congregation, as Christ’s body; and, ultimately, to our Lord, who is Head of the Church. The Associate Pastor will also be subject to the terms of employment and accountability specified in the personnel policy of RCPC. Qualities: Spiritually, emotionally and intellectually secure and mature; Possessing deep joy and enthusiasm; Organized and finds the delight in the details of creating meaningful events and programs Equipped with humility, a sense of humor, and a positive and encouraging attitude; A lover of Scripture who delights in sharing the Good News with others and helping others grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and in following in the way of Jesus Christ An individual who appreciates the diversity of views within the congregation that is held together by our unity in Christ A person with strong interpersonal skills for building relationships Responsibilities: Pursuant to RCPC’s vision, the associate pastor serves in all areas of the congregation’s life with particular creative and organizational responsibilities listed below. • Ministry with Deacons o Work to maintain, strengthen, and expand ministries of care and support within the congregation including homebound and hospital visitation (Pastoral Care) o Help to create opportunities for fellowship and relationship-building in social settings (Fellowship) o Coordinate with the Deacons the Mission efforts of our congregation (Mission) • Youth Ministry o Work with the Youth Committee to create the annual Youth Group schedule and special youth programs throughout the year, including annual summer trips. o Attend Youth Group on Sunday nights to oversee activities o Coordinate with leaders for other youth events and attend as called upon or needed o Chaperone the Montreat Youth Conference and other overnight youth retreats/mission as needed o Coordinate with other program staff regarding Youth Sunday School and Confirmation • Spiritual Formation o Work to strengthen the spiritual and prayer lives of the congregation through special worship services, Bible studies, prayer groups, and retreat coordination o Compose devotionals and other written materials for congregational engagement • Worship responsibilities o Preach monthly o Lead in the liturgy of worship weekly and sacraments as celebrated o Assist/Perform funerals and weddings o Lead regularly in the Wednesday Morning worship service with communion • Administrative responsibilities: o Serve as Acting Head of Staff when the Head of Staff is on vacation or ill (taking care of pastoral emergencies, leading staff meetings, leading worship, etc.) o Attend weekly staff meetings o Attend monthly session meetings o Attend monthly meetings of the Deacon board as the staff liaison o Serve on other committees as needed o Work to find administrative efficiencies throughout the church’s operation
