Duke Divinity School Professor Will Willimon will lead a morning retreat on "Money and Christians" with discussion and reflection on the unique ways that the Christian faith considers money: gift of God, responsibility, danger, temptation, insurance, and a way to love our neighbor.
To be a disciple in the current culture is to be someone who struggles with the challenge of money, according to Willimon, so retreat participants will reflect upon the Biblical and theological resources available to them in being Christians who have money so that money does not have them.
Willimon, who was dean of Duke Chapel for 20 years, is a retired United Methodist bishop and currently is professor of the practice of Christian ministry at the Divinity School. Among his numerous books is Sinning Like a Christian, in which he reflects upon a Christian view of material possessions.
The retreat will cost $10 each, which includes the cost of a catered lunch.
