Duke Chapel will hold its Sunday Worship Service with the Rev. Dr. William Turner Jr., James T. and Alice Mead Cleland Professor of the Practice of Preaching at Duke Divinity School, preaching.
Turner, who was a Duke student in 1968 participated in what became known as the Silent Vigil in front of Duke Chapel in which students sought better treatment for African-Americans at the university in the aftermath of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. See a Duke Today article with Turner talking about the event, which was a turning point for the university.
