Caminantes means "walkers." Through a Caminantes program at Duke Divinity School for students and one for pastors, fellow sojourners encounter Christ while practicing and honing skills for ministry among Latinos. The Caminantes program for students meets every week for spiritual formation from a Hispanic Methodist perspective. In addition, participants have the opportunity to attend a spiritual retreat in the fall semester in preparation for an encounter with the Methodist church in Latin America during the spring semester. The Caminantes program for pastors meets periodically to practice and hone skills for ministry among Latinos.

"Caminantes" for Pastors

Pastores Caminantes is a program developed by the Hispanic House of Studies at Duke Divinity School in conjunction with the North Carolina and Western North Carolina Conferences of the United Methodist Church. Pastors with a heart and passion to minister for and with the Latinx community are encouraged to apply.

Participants gather for a retreat in November, meet four times a year for spiritual formation from a Latinx Methodist perspective and participate in a week-long immersion to Latin America.

Pastores Caminantes membes gather to study the Bible together, discuss texts emerging from the Latinx community, engage in conversation with leaders in North Carolina serving the community, and obtain tools to better facilitate conversations on inclusion and cultural humility in their own contexts.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2019.

"Caminantes" for Students

Caminantes means “walkers.” The Student Caminantes Program is where fellow students seek to encounter Christ on the roads connecting Duke Divinity School to the world. The group meets every week for spiritual formation from a Latinx perspective. In these meetings, participants have the opportunity to practice and hone skills for ministry among Latinx communities. Together the group reads the Bible in Spanish, discusses texts emerging from the community, and learns how to praise and pray in a different language.

In addition to these meetings, students in the Caminantes program have the opportunity to attend a spiritual retreat in the fall semester in and a pilgrimage to Latin America during the spring semester.

Any student who is currently enrolled at Duke Divinity School and is interested in discerning, strengthening, and practicing their skills for ministry among the Latinx community is encouraged to apply to the Caminantes Program. The deadline to apply is Aug. 30, 2019.
