The Duke University Office of the Provost and Sacred Worth, a Duke Divinity School student group, will sponsor two training workshops for school faculty and staff on sexual and gender diversity.
This first training on "Understanding Sexual and Gender Diversity" will explore sexual identity, gender identity and sexual orientation as well as show how the binaries in these categories are being deconstructed.
Topics to be discussed include what the letters "LGBTTQQIAD" stand for, the definitions of sexual and gender identities, and whether "male and female in the image of God" adequately address the full spectrum of human expressions of one’s sex.
The second training, “LGBTQ Inclusion in the Classroom and Workplace," will be held Feb. 16 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Room 0012 of the Westbrook Building.
Both training workshops will be led by Dr. Janie Long, associate vice provost for Undergraduate Education at Duke, a Divinity School alumna, and former director of Duke's Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity. She also served in the North Carolina and Western North Carolina conferences of the United Methodist Church.
Register to attend the first workshop by 9 a.m. on Jan. 9. A breakfast will be provided.
