Duke Divinity School will host a public discussion on a recently published novel, The Risk of Returning, with authors Rudy and Shirley Nelson during Professor's Xi Lian's class, World Christianity 815.
Rudy Nelson, emeritus associate professor of English and religious studies at the University at Albany, is the author of The Making and Unmaking of an Evangelical Mind: The Case of Edward Carnell (Cambridge University Press, 1987). Shirley Nelson is the author of the novel The Last Year of the War (Harper and Row, 1978) and Fair, Clear, and Terrible: The Story of Shiloh, Maine (British American, 1989).
The free presentation is being sponsored by the Dean's Office, the Divinity School Historical Division, and Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts about the book, a historical novel set in Guatemala in the 1980s reflecting the tragedy and heroism co-existing within Guatemala’s religious communities.
