Duke Divinity School Dean Richard B. Hays has announced the appointment of Edgardo Colón-Emeric as assistant professor of Christian theology, effective July 1, 2011.
Colón-Emeric has most recently served since 2007 as director of the Hispanic House of Studies and as assistant research professor of theology and Hispanic studies at the Divinity School.
An ordained minister, Colón-Emeric was chosen after an international search process and will be one of a small number of United Methodist Latino theologians holding a tenure-track faculty position in a United Methodist theological school. In this new position, Colón-Emeric will teach and perform research full-time.
The Divinity School has already begun a search for a new director of the Hispanic House of Studies to assume Colón-Emeric's previous duties, including directing the Thriving Hispanic/Latino Communities Initiative, sponsored by a grant from The Duke Endowment.
Colón-Emeric is the author of Wesley, Aquinas, and Christian Perfection: An Ecumenical Dialogue (Baylor University Press, 2009).
