The NCC Wellness Committee is introducing a pedometer-based walking program free to all NC Conference clergy members in 2011. Enrollment is also free to NC Conference and local church lay employees enrolled in the Conference Health Plan. Eligible members will be able to earn up to $250 in cash incentives by meeting walking objectives every quarter. The Amazing Pace is a walking program that features motivational 12-week virtual walking journeys and a cool pedometer that uploads your daily step data (via computer) to a special NCC website. Members will be on teams to encourage and motivate each other during the journeys. The objective of this exciting program is to enjoy the health benefits of being more active. These benefits may include: more energy, lowered blood pressure, reduced cholesterol, better diabetes control, fewer aches and pains, more flexibility, sounder sleep, reduced stress and weight loss. Be on the lookout for enrollment information coming via mail and email in January.
To avoid any confusion, The Amazing Pace is not part of Spirited Life or the Duke Clergy Health Initiative. But CHI is not the only game in town, nor should we be. Here is a great opportunity for NCC clergy and other eligible church workers to take part in an innovative program at no cost to you. So we urge all eligible persons to take part in The Amazing Pace. Doing more walking or other moderate physical activity every day is healthy for virtually all of us. Whether you are in Group 1 of Spirited Life, are waitlisted as part of Groups 2 and 3, or not enrolled in Spirited Life at all, this is a great way to complement and enhance the health behavior changes you are already working on.
Kudos to the North Carolina Conference for getting on board with The Amazing Pace.
