The Community Leader is responsible for guiding L’Arche Long Island (LLI) through the transition from its current conceptual phase into a fully recognized, sustainable and operational L’Arche community on the East End of Long Island. This community will be developed and partially funded utilizing a Person Centered approach for the Core Members through the New York State Office of Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Self Direction model.
The foremost concern of the Community Leader shall be to develop and operate homes where people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities may live following the ideology evolved by Jean Vanier and the L’Arche movement. This will begin with the development of the first home in the Town of Riverhead and the Community Leader will then be responsible to expand and develop homes and apartments in the surrounding communities in conjunction with the LLI strategic plan. The Community Leader will lead authentically through the mission and values of L’Arche in its commitment to community, finding spirituality in its daily life, while simultaneously maintaining strict compliance with all licensing requirements. This person ensures that the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities are met and that their gifts are promoted both within the LLI community and in the wider environs. This individual leads, manages, and administers the daily operations of the community in order to meet the financial, legal, and quality standards expected from the governing bodies. The Community Leader will have a knowledge of L’Arche history, as well as L’Arche professional, community, and spiritual life. This will be a person of faith and hope, courage and integrity with a discerning spirit. The Community Leader works cooperatively with the Board of Directors, the Fiscal Intermediary, the L’Arche Regional Leader, and the L’Arche Regional Council. This role is a 5-year commitment, with a reflection period. Second term considered.
