The Director of Young Adult Ministries at Collierville UMC shall be an individual who possesses a deep spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ. This person shall be concerned with the needs of the local and global community and will demonstrate this through fellowship, study, worship, and service. This person must possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and electronically. She or he must be able to work with volunteers and a large church staff while understanding God’s Mission and vision for this congregation. Most importantly, the Director will love and reach out to individuals at all stages of young adulthood so that they may know Christ and His Love for them.
-Builds relationships with young adults ages 18-35 and creates a Spirit-filled environment in which young people may learn about God, grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, and discern God’s call on their life.
-Manages and oversees the entire Young Adult Ministries program (ages 18-35) including, but not limited to, young adult Sunday school classes, weekly Team Trivia Night, summer college-aged Bible study, Off the Wall community movie nights, annual missions fundraiser, annual mission trip (international, domestic, or local), college care packages & on-campus visits, and monthly dinners.
-Partners with other program directors to provide ministry opportunities to young adults (Bible study, music, hand bells, mentoring young people, etc.) as well as multi-generational events that are open to the entire congregation and community.
-Selects or develops curriculum for Sunday school, Wednesday night Bible study, and summer college-aged Bible study.
-Actively recruits adult volunteers to host monthly dinners, participate in missions fundraising, and mentoring college students and other young adults.
-Communicates with young adults, volunteers, and staff over a variety of mediums including email, phone, text messaging, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
-Attends and participates in all required staff meetings, adapts to non-traditional work hours, serves as a staff liaison to church committees as assigned, works 40 hours a week, works directly with Pastoral Staff, and reports to Associate Minister.
-Participates in Continuing Education opportunities by attending conferences or workshops that relate to Young Adult Ministries.
-Committed Christian disciple
-Bachelor’s degree required
-M.Div., MAR, ThM or other Master’s degree is desired
-A minimum of three years of experience working with youth, college students, or young people is required; experience working on a large church staff is desired.
