The Office of Black Church Studies and Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts at Duke Divinity School will sponsor a public lecture, "Performing Transcendence: Thoughts on Musical Blackness, the Holy Spirit, and Jazz Improvisation," by Melvin L.Butler, assistant professor of music at the University of Chicago.

A reception will follow the lecture.
