Lian Appointed to Faculty

leftDivinity School Dean Richard B. Hays today announced the appointment of Xi Lian as professor of world Christianity, effective July 1, 2013.

Lian is currently professor of history at Hanover College and associate in research at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. He has a D.A. in Humanistic Studies from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.A. and B.A. from Fujian Normal University in China.

His areas of research include the rise of Christian and Christian-influenced public intellectuals in contemporary China and the encounter between modern Chinese intellectuals and the West. His latest book is Redeemed by Fire: The Rise of Popular Christianity in Modern China (New Haven and London: Yale University Press, 2010), which won a 2011 Christianity Today Book Award in the Missions/Global Affairs category.
