Riedel and Doerfler Join Faculty

Meredith RiedelDean Richard B. Hays announced yesterday that Meredith Riedel and Maria Doerfler have accepted offers to join the Divinity School faculty as assistant professors of the history of Christianity.

Riedel is currently an assistant professor of history at Wheaton College in Illinois. Her research interests include global history, especially the medieval Middle East and the Mediterranean region. Her scholarship focuses on the nexus of war, politics, and religion, and she has a particular interest in pre-Reformation non-Latin Christian theology.

Maria DoerflerDoerfler is a doctoral candidate at Duke in the field of Early Christianity. Her work has appeared in journals including Church History and Le Museon. She has taught religion courses at Duke and was a visiting lecturer in early Christianity at the Divinity School in 2011.

Riedel will begin her position July 1, 2012, and Doerfler will start the following year on July 1, 2013.
