Video of 2011 Gardner Taylor Lecture Series Now Available
Video of the 2011 fall Gardner C. Taylor Lecture Series on Sept. 27-28 is now available. The lecture series, sponsored by the Office of Black Church Studies, was established in 1975 and named in honor of the Rev. Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, and provides opportunities to hear outstanding black preachers in Duke Divinity School classes and worship services.
Dale P. Andrews, distinguished professor of homiletics, social justice, and practical theology at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion, was this year's featured lecturer and preacher. An ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Andrews has served AME Zion churches in Connecticut and New Jersey.
Andrews gave a lecture Sept. 27 titled "Jus' Couldn't Keep It to Myself: Preaching and the Black Church in the Public Square." He also preached in Goodson Chapel on Mark 7:24-30 in a sermon titled "Measuring Grace?" and on Genesis 1:1-5 in a sermon titled "Hovering?"
