The Office of Black Church Studies will sponsor its 2011 fall Gardner C. Taylor Lecture Series on Sept. 27-28, 2011. The lecture series, established in 1975 and named in honor of the Rev. Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, provides opportunities to hear outstanding black preachers in Duke Divinity School classes and worship services.

This fall’s lecturer will be Dr. Dale P. Andrews, distinguished professor of homiletics, social justice and practical theology at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion. An ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Dr. Andrews has served AME Zion churches in Connecticut and New Jersey.

Andrews will give a lecture Sept. 27 titled "'Jus' Couldn't Keep It to Myself': Preaching and the Black Church in the Public Square." He will also preach on Mark 7:24-30 in a sermon titled "Measuring Grace?" and on Genesis 1:1-5 in sermon titled "Hovering?"
