Senior Awards Recipients

Duke Divinity School has announced the recipients of its 2011 awards to seniors.

Bonnie Elisabeth Scott received the Jameson Jones Preaching Award.

Earlier in April, Scott also was selected as the recipient of the David H.C. Read Preacher/Scholar Award from the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. She was Duke University’s first recipient of what is the nation’s most prestigious preaching award for Protestant seminarians and also the first Methodist woman to receive the honor.

In the other Divinity School awards, Laura Michelle Beach was selected for the Hoyt Hickman Award for Excellence in Liturgics.

Jack Curtis Lowndes and Andrea Nicole Pippins received the Award for Excellence in Bible.

Receiving the McMurry Richey Awards were: Gérard Nsabimana for Outstanding Student in Field Education; Darriel Bobby Harris for Outstanding Student in Missions; and Paul Sellars Atlas for Outstanding Student Pastor.

Atlas and Mark Christopher Gorman received the Seminarian Award of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.

The seniors earning the top GPA Awards will be announced in May after final grades are posted.
