Celebrating Ministry of Professor William C. Turner

A week-long series of events April 14-18 will celebrate Duke Divinity School Professor William C. Turner’s 20th anniversary as pastor of Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, N.C., and his 40 years in ministry.

Turner, associate professor of the practice of homiletics, joined the faculty in 1982. His teaching and research focuses on pneumatology and the tradition of spirituality and preaching within the black church. Turner also has served pastorates in the United Holy Church of America, where he is an ordained elder.

All the events, except for a banquet, will be held at Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church, located at 316 Hebron Road.

The schedule is:

Wed., April 14
7:00 p.m. Six mini sermons preached by Turner’s former Divinity School students Derrick Justice, Sharon Adams, Cathy Gillard, Victor Lamont Lane, Rhonda Hatton, and Jean Luc Charles.
Fri., April 16,
7:00 p.m. Mount Level Mass Choir performs.
Sat., April 17
9:45 a.m. Panel discussion on “The State of Ministry” with discussion leaders Bishop Phillip Cousins, Sr. of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Dr. Clarence G. Newsome, distinguished church leader in residence at the Divinity School. A luncheon will follow.
Sun., April 18
8:00 a.m. Mount Level worship service with Newsome speaking
10:45 a.m. Mount Level worship service with Bishop Cousins speaking
3:00 p.m. Banquet at the Radisson Hotel in Research Triangle Park
