James Earl Massey, dean emeritus and distinguished professor-at-large at Anderson University School of Theology in Anderson, Ind., lectured Sept. 28 and preached Sept. 29 at Duke Divinity School’s Goodson Chapel as part of the 2010 Gardner C. Taylor Distinguished Lecture Series. Massey is also emeritus dean of the chapel at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala.
Gary V. Simpson, who followed Gardner C. Taylor as senior pastor at Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, N.Y., preached the opening sermon Sept. 28. Since 1975, this annual series sponsored by the Office of Black Church Studies has brought outstanding black preachers to Duke University.
